Coach - testimonials
"Jason is a fantastic Improv teacher. He is silly, deadpan and energetic all at once, while giving honest and thoughtful feedback to beginner performers. Jason and Jen Rowe got me hooked on improv!"
"I have been taught by Jason in back in 2013 when I joined the Beginners course at the Maydays in Brighton UK. From the beginning he was an inspiration in making me want to perform and learning the techniques from him. He has a very deep understanding of improvised comedy and can make anyone proficient in the art of improvised comedy. In the end of the 10 weeks he helped us prepare for a show of our own just from what we learned in the previous 10 weeks, we performed in front of about 30 people which I was surprisingly comfortable with. I enjoyed it so much and would love to have the opportunity to work with him in the future. The guy is top. Thank you again Jason."
"I was taught by Jason many times, on several of The Maydays' 10-week improv courses, at improv workshops and intensives. I enjoyed being taught by Jason because he always gave his full attention to scenes and classes, which made me feel valued as a student and embodied the qualities of listening and presence we talk about so often. Jason's knowledge of improv is encyclopedic and as a teacher I found he was able to very quickly analyse and name what was going on in a scene. As someone who is also analytical in nature, I found this approach helpful and illuminating, particularly once I reached a stage in my own improv where I was also analysing scenes. However, I never felt this approach to be reductive or to get in the way of intuitive, spontaneous choices. As an improviser Jason has a wide range of performance skills and styles. For example, I have seen him do scenes with moving emotional authenticity but also be able to fire off a series of puns or construct a tight rhyme. He's also clearly very comfortable with musical performance. I think this range helps Jason as a teacher because he appreciates many different aspects of comedy and performance and can work with students as individuals."
"Jason ran the first ever improv class I attended. He was encouraging, enthusiastic, patient and incredibly knowledgeable about all things improv. Jason’s enthusiasm is catching, his laugh infectious and he uses both of these seemingly natural talents to create classes where improvisers of all levels can just get better."
"Jason taught my first ever improv class, five years ago. I have been regularly practicing and performing since then, and Jason's love of and enthusiasm for improv has a lot to do with that. He has trained with the best, dedicated years to his craft, and is a generous & insightful director and coach. I recently performed in a really important (to me) show, and I had a distinct moment of stepping out into a scene thinking 'I'm just going to do what Jason would do here.' It worked."
